New Year at Il Melo
Published by in At Il Melo • 04/01/2011 11:34:36
I'm afraid that the blog rather went by the wayside last year after my initial flush of enthusiasm but I'm going to try harder this time.

We returned yesterday from a brief New Year break at il Melo - we flew with Jet2 from Manchester, arriving on Boxing Day - 26 December. Unfortunately seasonal illnesses rather limited us - but thanks to the pharmacy in Monte San Martino we managed to struggle on. As well as seeing friends, our highlights included:

Seeing the New Year in at Antico Gusto

This is becoming something of a tradition with us, having first done it two years ago. AG is a real agriturismo meaning it's a real worknig farm and not just a hotel / restaurant with a bit of a vegetalbe patch attached and everyithng is grown and made on the premises. The new year dinner is a real event with music amd dancing as well as almost unlimited quantities of wonderful food, wine, vino cotto and mistra'.

Skating in Servigliano
Servigliano is one of our nearest towns and has a beautiful piazza with, most winters, an outdoor skating rink. We also bumped into our old friend Stefano Dezi, one of the top local wine growers, who invited us to see him at an international show in London (will post details when I get his email.)

Lunch at Le Querce
This is our nearest agriturismo / restaurant. Several of last year's guests raved about the food at Le Querce but I'd only been once before and then just for a quick bite so an extended Sunday lunch was a delight. The absolute highlight was the tagliata - a tender beef fillet roasted over an open wood fire and cut into perfect tender slices. Some of the finest meat we've ever had. And very reasonably priced too.
