Inside Villa Il Melo - luxury kitchen, comfortable living space, bedrooms all en-suite

Il Melo

Ground Floor

Most of Villa il Melo's ground floor is open plan in an L-shape with kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating. The gorgeous kitchen features granite work surfaces and top quality appliances - go to the Gastro pages for the full lowdown. The dining table extends to seat up to 12 people (and there are also two high chairs for the little ones.) Finally there are three soft, leather sofas to relax in. For entertainment there is an Ipod / MP3 dock and speaker system.

At both ends of the house (in the kitchen area and next to the dining table) are french windows that can be opened wide to give a flow of air and keep the temperature comfortable even on the hottest day. And, in winter, the under floor central heating keeps everything warm (and lets you walk round in bare feet!)

There is also a separate living room with fireplace - look closely at the mantelpiece, it is made from wood that formed part of the cattle stalls that were in the house before its restoration. In here you will find a TV with DVD player and Playstation - plus lots of DVDs and PS Games. It's also where the stock of board games (for children and adults) is kept.

Finally, in an annex at the rear, are the downstairs loo and the boiler room with Siemens washing machine.

First Floor

On the first floor is sleeping accommodation for four people plus the library.

All our bedrooms are named for their main colour scheme although in the summer the throws will probably not be in use.

The Black and White master suite offers almost 400 square feet (36sq m) of luxury accommodation with a romantic superking four poster bed (like all our beds it was made by Italian craftsmen) and a hugh bathroom with steam / chromatherapy shower. Both bedroom and bathroom are dual aspect giving wonderful views and great ventilation in hot weather. All sheets and towels in this, and every, bedroom are in finest Egyptian Cotton by Christy of Manchester (Europe's oldest towel maker) - something to really appreciate in hot weather.

The Candy bedroom is also very spacious and has twin beds and a sunken bath. It too is dual aspect with views of the Sibillini mountains across the cherry orchard.

Finally on this floor is the library. As is typical of Marche farmhouses the staircase to the upper floor is reached through a room and this is now the library with a good selection of books and a quiet corner to read them in.

Second Floor

On the second floor are three en-suite bedrooms. On the left is a second master suite of almost 400 sq ft (36 sq m) with whirlpool bath (we don't recommend using bath foam with the whirlpool action for obvious reasons. but boys will be boys!) Normally these would be attic rooms with very restricted headroom but our brilliant builders managed to raise the roof by about half a metre (about 18 inches) which makes the space really usable - many Italian houses are of similar design but you will find they have the original roof height and you can really notice the difference. This is our favourite room as it always feels so cosy.

The other two rooms on this floor are twins which are ideal for children. Each has an en-suite shower room.
