Le Marche - region of Villa Il Melo, in the heart of rural Italy

What to do

"Adjacent to [Tuscany] we discovered a less commercialised region called Le Marche. On the eastern side of central Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine mountains, Le Marche is where you really can meet true Italians."

Gary Rhodes

"Le Marche: It's prettier than Umbria, with tastier cuisine than Tuscany."

The Sunday Times 21/3/2010

"Le Marche is everything you want from an Italian summer stay - rural panoramas, old rambling farmhouses, the sea nearby."

The Sunday Times 17/2/2013

"Stretching for around 100 miles along the Adriatic coast, with hilltowns to rival those of Tuscany and Umbria,
Le Marche is a gorgeous and affordable region to explore"

The Guardian 30/3/2013

The region of Le Marche, together with Tuscany and Umbria, makes up the central part of Italy. Like its better known neighbours it is a land of green fields, woodlands, vineyards, lovingly tended vegetable patches and of hills topped by honey-coloured towns that seem unchanged since the middle ages. Unlike many parts of those neighbours, however, it still offers the tranquility you need on holiday. Wander the hills of the Sibillini National Park or take a coffee in the Piazza del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno and there are no crowds, no tour buses even at the height of summer.

The video on the right shows some beautiful images to give you a taste of the towns, mountains and hills of Southern Marche, all within a short distance of your holiday villa.

The Adriatic coast is nearby too (Le Marche is bordered by the Appenines in the west and the sea in the east) and is the source of wonderful seafood. The majestic Conero peninsula with its coves and high cliffs is particularly worth a visit.

In the following pages we'll show you some of our favourite places in this beautiful region of Italy and some of things you can do here too.
