No meat today; the idea is to make good progress and then stop for a lovely seafood meal somewhere on the Adriatic coast. Unfortunately a 90 minute hold up at the St Gotthard tunnel and some slow traffic through Emilia Romagna rather puts paid to that. To make matters worse all the shops are shut and so are the pizzerias so we have to make do with what we can find in the cupboard – pasta and bottled sauce. The sauce has a bit of meat in it but it’s past midnight in the holy land so that’ll let us off. To bed late, tired but, as always, feeling tons better just to be in this beautiful place.
